About the class

Stepping into the role of 'teacher' implies that there is something of importance to 'teach'.

An effective yoga class not only offers a safe, methodical and accessible sequence, it conveys deeper meanings sourced from the tradition that render a sequence ‘purposeful'.

A sound and safe order of poses presents the surface of a purposeful sequence. To impart knowledge in a way that transmits the essence of the tradition through a sequence requires ongoing personal reflection, rigorous self appraisal and direct engagement with scripture and other sources. This is known as swādhyāya.

A purposeful sequence resonates with this type of enquiry. It also allows for student enquiry through various modalities. And so the flip side of effective teaching calls for learning.

The full day includes both a Teachers' Practice in the morning: an enquiry based asana practice inspired from the texts of the yoga tradition, and a Teachers' Practicum in the afternoon: a review of sound sequencing, reflective processes, journaling, group work, dialogue and Q&A.

While teachers are strongly encouraged to participate in the whole day to get the most out of the intensive, registrants may also choose to take one session or the other as a stand alone workshop.

This first part of this teachers' intensive provides:

- a teachers' practice

- an enquiry based asana practice inspired from the texts of the yoga tradition

- a supportive space for coming together with other teachers in an inclusive and empowered learning environment

Please make sure to bring a notepad and pen.

About Anna :

A senior teacher and trainer in the UK, Anna has been studying and practicing yoga for over 30 years and teaching for over 20. She holds the highest level of certification with Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500. She also holds a B.A. (hons) in Modern Dance which she gained from Mills College in California in 1991.

Anna’s teaching style has evolved from her study of dance, in-depth training within styles of modern postural yoga focussing on alignment and precision, and immersion in a wide variety of yoga practices and teachings while living for 12 years in a yoga ashram in upstate New York in the 1990’s.

Anna weaves together flowing and artful movement, healthy alignment and stillness - all of which express the essence of yoga as awareness. She curates a purposeful sequence at a slow and measured pace which enables a process that can result in deep connection and joyful presence.

She specialises in Restorative Yoga where diving deep into embodied experience with a focus on nervous system health enables a profound shift of perception and state that supports well-being and integration. Restorative practice is mostly passive and breath oriented where the body is supported on bolsters and blankets and held for longer periods of time than in an active class. The interiority and stillness embodied by this type of yoga practice shift the nervous system out of ‘fight or flight’ into a deeply felt relaxation response.

Her book, Restorative Yoga: Power Presence Practice for Teachers and Trainees, released in March 2022, elucidates and celebrates this powerful style of practice so important in maintaining balance and the state of equilibrium. It serves as an in depth guide for those interested in going deeper into Restorative Yoga.

Her approach to yoga practice is methodical and accessible and incorporates the teachings of yoga in a way that makes sense in a modern context. Classes and retreats are focused on learning and direct experience; she endeavours to create an environment that is welcome to all, open and friendly.

As one of the UK’s leading yoga teachers, Anna leads workshops, trainings and retreats at various yoga centres in London and around the UK. She teaches weekly classes at the Yoga Loft in Leicestershire where she lives. As an experienced teacher trainer having lead numerous trainings over a span of 20 years, as well as founding the triyoga™ teacher training programme, Anna enjoys curating a learning experience that honours the tradition while innovating to meet the times. She regularly leads retreats, workshops and trainings in the UK and Europe.

Anna is a registered SYT teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals. This accreditation demonstrates excellent standards as set by Yoga Alliance Professionals.
