About the class

What is a chakra? How can knowledge of the chakra system enhance our yoga practice? And how can we use the chakra system to become happier, healthier and more vibrant in our bodies and in our lives?

In this workshop we will give a brief overview of the whole chakra system and then focus in on the Ajna (Third Eye) and Sahasrara (Crown) Chakras, the two uppermost energy centres in the chakra system. The Ajna Chakra, located in the centre of the forehead, is associated with intuition, insight, and inner vision, guiding us to trust our instincts and deepen our self-awareness. The Sahasrara Chakra, situated at the top of the head, represents our connection to the divine, spirituality, and universal consciousness. Together, these chakras invite us to transcend the physical realm and tap into higher states of awareness. This class includes meditation, visualization, and mindfulness.

This immersive session will include:

- An introduction to the chakra system, with extra info on the 6th and 7th chakras.

- An asana practice that will work through all the chakras but then focus in on the 6th and 7th chakras.

- Pranayama (breathing practices).

- Mudra (hand gestures).

- Mantra (repeated words to aid concentration) and affirmations.

- Meditation.

- The opportunity for self-reflection (journalling optional) and discussion.

This session is suitable for anyone interested in the chakra system and self-enquiry (curious students and yoga teachers/ trainees). You do not have to have attended Annet & Laura’s previous workshops on the chakras – this one in particular will give you a good sense of the overall chakra system. Expect to learn, feel, question and have some fun along the way!

About Laura Knightly Brown

Laura has been teaching yoga for 8 years and has been an avid student of all things “wellbeing” for 20 years, after a stay at a wellness retreat in Thailand sparked her initial interest. She is driven to explore how to use both ancient wisdom and modern science to find tools that can help people thrive.

Right back in her school days, Laura was interested in both science and the arts, studying A-Levels in Biology, Maths and English, and then going on to gain an MA in English Literature and Language from Oxford University. For 7 years, Laura worked for the retreat company, Wildfitness, alongside pioneers of the natural health and fitness world. In 2015, Laura read her first books on Positive Psychology (the “science of human flourishing”) and has since completed four separate courses on the subject.

Laura loves yoga for the way it combines the physical, mental and spiritual, creating an holistic system for achieving vibrant health in body, mind and soul. Yoga is a path to self-knowledge, and understanding ourselves is arguably the most powerful thing we can do to enhance our wellbeing. By combining the ancient wisdom of yoga with more recent developments in psychology and science, we can find illuminating tools for self-enquiry.
